Aganorsa Leaf Arsenio Robusto

Below is a tasting review of the Aganorsa Leaf Arsenio Robusto.

Cigars from Aganorsa Leaf have firmly earned a place in my regular rotation. With a broad portfolio of blends and vitolas, the brand offers something for virtually every type of cigar smoker, regardless of personal preferences. The cigar reviewed here is a relatively new addition to the company’s lineup. Fortunately, it reached the Polish market around the same time as its global release, at a point when the brand itself had already established a solid presence locally. So how did this new Aganorsa Leaf release perform in my tasting?

Aganorsa Leaf Arsenio Robusto

The Arsenio line made its debut in 2024. It was created as a tribute to Arsenio Ramos, one of the most respected cigar blenders in Nicaragua and a pivotal figure behind Aganorsa Leaf. For decades, Ramos worked extensively with Nicaraguan tobacco, earning a reputation for his exceptional sense of balance, flavor clarity and what is often described as a “Cubanesque” approach interpreted through a modern lens. He was widely regarded as a master of Corojo and Criollo varietals, and his blends were known for their elegance, depth and consistency. According to the manufacturer, the Arsenio line is built around a blend that Ramos himself considered especially close to his personal ideals, making it both a tribute and a continuation of his legacy.

The Arsenio line is composed entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco. The wrapper is a Corojo leaf grown in the Jalapa Valley, while the double binder features Criollo ’98 alongside additional Nicaraguan tobacco. The filler is a blend of leaves from Condega and Jalapa. Cigars are packaged in boxes of 15. The Arsenio line is offered in the following vitolas:

  • Corona (6 x 44),
  • Robusto (5 1/4 x 54),
  • Toro (6 x 52).

This review focuses on my tasting experience with the Robusto vitola.

A Few Technical Notes

The cigar is presented in a Robusto format, measuring 5 1/4 inches in length with a 54 ring gauge. It is a generously sized Robusto – so much so that the Polish distributor has chosen to label it a “Double Robusto.” While that designation may be debatable, the cigar undeniably feels substantial in hand, almost like a Robusto on steroids. The wrapper falls somewhere between light and dark, striking a balanced, medium-toned appearance. The presentation is highlighted by an attractive primary band featuring a gold profile of Arsenio Ramos with a cigar clenched between his lips, set against a deep blue background. It’s a color combination I find particularly elegant and well-executed. Below the main band sits a paper sleeve decorated with patterns that evoke Nicaraguan folk motifs, with the brand name centered prominently. The design is rendered in two shades of blue, complementing the primary band nicely. Overall, the cigar makes a strong and polished first impression before lighting.

The Cut

Before making the cut, I take a moment to nose the cigar in order to set the palate. The wrapper aroma is immediately inviting, offering a combination of natural sweetness, a touch of barnyard, and a creamy note reminiscent of aged cheese. It’s the kind of profile that might sound unusual when written down, but in person it comes across as both intriguing and appetizing. I opt for a V-cut, and with a clean snip, the draw opens up beautifully – free and effortless. On the cold draw, the cigar delivers a mix of black pepper, earth, and a subtle note of milk chocolate. A promising preview of what’s to come.

The Smoke

I take my time properly toasting the foot with a jet flame lighter before bringing the cigar to life with a series of short, gentle draws. After setting it down briefly to let it settle, I begin the tasting. The opening profile is led by black pepper and earth. Shortly thereafter, hazelnut enters the picture, softening the sharper edges of the profile. As the cigar develops, cedar wood comes to the forefront, quickly joined by a leathery note. The finish leans back toward earth, accented by a lightly acidic, toasted hazelnut character.

Strength & Body

In terms of strength, the cigar operates in the upper registers. While it doesn’t start off overpowering, what begins at medium-full quickly builds into a decidedly full-bodied experience.

Aroma & Smoke

Smoke production is abundant, delivering thick, dense clouds with a noticeable sweetness that almost clings to the palate. Beneath that sweetness, the aroma carries a creamy quality paired with a sharp, nose-tingling edge.

Construction & Burn

The burn remains even and consistent, requiring no touch-ups.

Final Thoughts on the Aganorsa Leaf Arsenio Robusto

The Aganorsa Leaf Arsenio Robusto is a flavorful, intense and thoroughly engaging cigar. It stands out as one of the more impressive offerings I’ve had from Aganorsa Leaf to date. I would gladly return to this cigar, and I’m equally curious to experience the blend in other vitolas. Highly recommended.

The cigar reviewed was purchased with my own funds.
